This mountainside off-grid survival retreat with 500 sq. ft. safe room and adjoining mother-in-law home, mudd room , and workshop sits on 40 acres of beautiful wooded land in Saguache County, CO. which has a year round maintained road. It has the following areas: 1800 sq. ft. main structure, 660 sq. ft. adjoining structure, 450 sq. ft. elevated wood deck. It has excellent quality well water, septic, solar electric with propane generator back up, wood heat and is a passive solar design. This home is surrounded by forestry and BLM land with an abundance of wildlife.
This remote home is well served by satellite internet and its unique power system gives uninterruptable power to computer equipment. The power change over if necessary from solar batteries to generator back up is seamless. There are no monthly utility bills to pay for: gas, sewer, water, electricity. And the taxes are less than $400 yearly.
This energy efficient southwestern style interior and exterior home is of poured reinforced concrete.
The floors are hardwood and flagstone, and the beautiful ceiling of log roof beams and Latillias (slender saplings) make the interior warm and inviting. An earth wood stove as well as a propane heater may be used for your heat. There’s solar electric backed up by a 15 kw propane powered generator which includes a 500 gallon propane tank. It also includes a 900 gallon on site gasoline or diesel tank and a 1600 gallon well water storage tank.
The adjoining structure containing the mother-in-law home and the workshop is of conventional wood frame. The mother-in-law home with distressed pine interior has kitchen and bath facilities and is
heated by a wood stove.
There’s a barn, tack room and corral for your horses. The water from the well is available for the horses and garden area. The lower pasture area is traversed by a seasonal creek.
