Ridges on 3 Sides, Only One Way In 118 Acres House and Log Cabin Prepper Property Very Secluded and Peaceful

118 acre farm in the Blue Ridge mountains of NC, hidden in a hollow, ridges on 3 sides, only 1 way in, 2 perpetual streams, 2 small ponds, house, log cabin, barn, root cellar. All the cleared land, about 30 to 40 acres is in pasture right now, but it is very rich land and used to be farmed with corn, tobacco, hay, potatoes, cabbage, and such crops. There is a large (15' X 30') wine/root cellar that is underground on 3 sides. Never freezes and is nice and cool in summer.

That concrete basin in a little room off the house is for a spring, which I never hooked up, but it would be easy to run a pipe into it. The room itself is called a "spring house" and was used to keep milk and canned vegetables cool.

Actually, the "holler" used to support 7 entire families! There are 2 creeks that are never dry. Each feeds a tiny pond. One has a boxed spring that I am told dates from the Uncivil war.

Water source is a deep well, but the creeks provide good water in a pinch, e.g. if power goes out. That was infrequent, so we never felt the need for a backup generator, but there is plenty of room for one. Behind the house is a cover and full hookups for an RV that we used to keep there. We have had fiber internet for 6 years.

There is plenty of timber, but nothing marketable for another 10 years. But there is plenty of wood for a wood stove. The little propane fireplace in one picture is in front of a wood stove chimney with a lined flue that we used to heat the entire house before I got tired of cutting, hauling, splitting wood! There is baseboard heat in each room that can be used selectively. But it would be easy to put a wood stove back in place.

There is one deep well for the property, and it supplies the cabin as well, but the house and cabin each have their own septic. The cabin is quite cozy. One daughter and 2 grandsons lived there for 2 years after her divorce. I potty trained them by telling them to pee in the yard. It is that secluded.

The pictures really don't do it justice. We have so many deer now that they are pests. I let a neighbor hunt and he and his family harvest a dozen each year, but it doesn't seem to make a tent. And wild turkey wander around in the pastures like they won the place. My old dogs (now gone) used to just ignore them, like they were family.
